Sydell Voeller

Sydell Voeller grew up in Edmonds, Washington. After high school graduation, she moved to Tacoma where she pursued a nursing career at Tacoma General Hospital School of Nursing.

Over the years, Sydell has worked as a staff nurse in hospitals and a variety of clinics. While her sons were growing up, she volunteered as a school district RN and day camp nurse. She has also played the violin in three semi-professional orchestras. Sydell has also been active in church lay ministry.

Sydell has always been interested in writing. She received her first rejection slip at the tender age of 9 after she submitted a poem for publication in a youth anthology! During high school, she was the editor of a creative writing magazine and associate editor of the weekly school newspaper.

Sydell resides in Oregon with her husband of 28 years. Their two sons are college students. Pet lovers, the Voellers have provided a home for several cats, a dog, gerbils, hamsters, and a turtle--but not all at the same time! A small rodent cemetary still occupies one corner of their backyard.

Sydell is currently a faculty member of the Long Ridge Writers' Institute, a home study course in writing short stories and articles.
